Papa, Do You Love Me?

Papa, Do You Love Me? is a tender story following the questions a child, Tender Heart, asks his father. His simple questions allow the audience to explore another culture, both through the words and the illustrations. They go through every question Tender Heart asks, his father reacting lovingly and patiently. The focus of the book is the bond between child and parent. Papa, Do You Love Me? is a fantastic representation of a loving father-son relationship.
The whole experience of this picture book is incredibly sweet, especially in the gentleness the father treats his child with. The illustrations are soft, while still detailed, and depict the life of the Maasai. This African tribe is located in the countries of Kenya and Tanzania, the last two pages of the book contain a glossary of the different traditions mentioned throughout the book. It is a great conversation starter to use in order to introduce your child to the differences, and similarities, of life around the world.
I could see any age child enjoying this book! Anyone would be enchanted by the culture, illustrations, and love that radiates from its pages. R, age 3, says the book makes him feel less nervous about growing up because it reminds him of how much his dad loves him. Sometimes, we all need to be reminded of the people that love us, which this book is fantastic at doing.
Until next time,
Maddie
